Anion Storage Capacity (P Retention)

Be aware of the phosphate requirement of soil to increase plant available phosphate levels

This test measures:

Measures the ability of the soil to store anions like phosphate and sulphate

Best time to run this test:

Only once per paddock as an extra test during regular soil testing. ASC is a property of the soil that does not change significantly over time.

Description

Measures the ability of the soil to store phosphate and sulphate. Soils with higher anion storage capacities will require larger amounts of fertiliser phosphate to raise soil test levels or to overcome deficiencies. Recommended once for each block or paddock.

Benefits

Raises awareness to potential fixing of phosphate or leaching of sulphate-S and ease or difficulty of raising soil test levels.
